2|42 Community Shows its Generosity

NewThing Church, 2|42 Community Church, located in Brighton and Ann Arbor MI realized that their attenders had a heart issue when it came to giving.  Lead Pastor David Dummitt said, “Our people had become afraid to be generous towards others during these difficult times and it is essential for the church to be generous and fill in the gaps, especially now, when there is so much need.”  Faced with a budget deficit, the leadership of 2|42 decided to give away an entire week’s offering.  For many, this just did not make sense but they decided to trust that God would provide.

To prepare for this week, the 2|42 teaching team presented a message series on generosity highlighting opportunities to give.  This series allowed them to dream what it would look like to be recklessly generous.  During this same time frame,  2|42 Community cell groups participated in a three-week Financial Peace series, by Dave Ramsey. Lead Pastor Dave Dummitt said, “If we can teach our people good financial principles, they would have more money to be generous towards others.” On June 7, 2009, the attenders of 2|42 Community Church gave $96,000 to the one-time generosity offering.  This money was  given to helping those in the Brighton and Ann Arbor communities,  a new church plant, and it helped feed orphans at the Casa Bernabe Orphanage in Guatemala. It is awesome to see people give out of faith despite the economy to help others!
