It has been more than 12 years since COMMUNITY, founders of NewThing, stumbled upon the phenomenon known as multi-site. To date, COMMUNITY is currently at 11 sites and prayerfully preparing to launch 5 more sites in Spring 2011. I love COMMUNITY’s passion as they are doing whatever they can to take the city of Chicago for Jesus. With more than 9 million people living in Chicago, COMMUNITY is organizing their sites into networks; decentralizing themselves in a way to empower everything towards reproduction. With these organic systems in place, COMMUNITY will soon have the ability to fully reproduce at the edges. 16 sites will become 32 and 32 will become 64 and soon exponential growth will happen. Multi-site is a fantastic strategy that God uses to reach a city – how will you reach your city?

It shouldn't be a surprise that a "reproducing church" thrives on change. After all, the reproducing church is lead by apostolic leaders who love to follow God into the new. Lead Pastors often love change, but the rest of the church might not be quick to embrace that change. Is it any wonder that even though many churches want to become reproducing churches, creating and sustaining a culture of change is often a looming obstacle.

Reaching the ever-increasing culturally and economically diverse populations in our cities requires new strategies and competency. We had the chance to dream about what that looks like for Community Christian Church as we sat inside the auditorium at The People’s Church of Uptown Chicago; A church that tells a story of dynamic change.

Nate Bush is planting a NewThing Reproducing Church in Albuquerque New Mexico! While the official plant is in September of 2010, Nate and his family have been in Albuquerque since September of 2009. Individuals are currently gathering together with Nate’s family every Sunday for church. This group will also be a part of the church’s launch. NewThing asked Nate to give us a picture of what God is doing:

This year NewThing's goal has been to identify 37 NewThing Residents that will placed throughout all of our 78 sites within the network. Our most recent addition to the church planting pipeline is Jon Peacock. Jon is married to Kelly and has a beautiful baby daughter, Hanna. We are very excited to welcome Jon and Kelly to COMMUNITY as Jon will be starting his residency August 1 at the Yellow Box Campus in Naperville.
