Do you ever feel like you can “mostly” see? One of my observations of reproducing church leaders is that the ability to see is often dependent on a second glance… or in some cases a second touch from God himself.

I am still on a high from Exponential 2009! I know many of you joined us in Orlando because I talked to so many of you. It was great being with over 3000 church planting leaders, learning about the art of movements from church leaders all over the globe and seeing over 500 people come forward in the closing session to commit their lives to church planting.

Landing late Sunday night, May 3rd, for my first NewThing Gathering, I thought, “What’s a house church guy from El Paso, TX, doing here?” All my insecurities were starting to rear their ugly heads when I got halfway down the escalator to see Aaron Monts (Lead Pastor, IKON/San Francisco) holding a paper flower ripped from a Chicago Botanic Garden ad. Hint: When a bald man who is an ‘insider’ of an organization you just signed up for is standing in a public place handing you a paper flower - insecurities tend to fade away.

My journey at COMMUNITY began with a six month church planting internship with Dave Ferguson in 2001. This was my first opportunity to be a part of a reproducing church. Over the course of my internship, I developed an even greater passion to see God’s mission accomplished through the launching of new campuses and churches. I spent the next several years on staff at COMMUNITY as the student ministry director at our Romeoville location before being hired as Campus Pastor to launch our Plainfield Campus on March 2, 2008.
