I want to brag on Hank Wilson, Lead Pastor from Reunion Church, in Boston. Hank recently flew to Chicago for a fundraiser that his long-time friend, Eric Metcalf, was hosting for a new COMMUNITY location that he is starting in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. Hank not only took a day out of his busy schedule to speak at this gathering, but Reunion Church also committed $20,000 to help start that new church! As I listened to Hank describe his confidence in Eric and in this new church, I was overcome with two distinct feelings.
First, I felt pride. I was proud of Hank who had once started a brand new COMMUNITY campus and, in the process, mentored Eric before leaving to plant his new church in Boston. I am also proud of how Hank continues to invest in Eric both relationally and financially. I love it when I see NewThing leaders supporting one another!
Second, I felt hopeful. NewThing is just getting started and 70% of our churches are less than 30 months old. As I look to the future and see these churches grow and reproduce, I'm hopeful that they will do what Hank did - continue to invest both relationally and financially in church planters and new churches.
As NewThing continues to grow and mature there will be huge financial resources available to catalyze this movement of reproducing churches. What I saw in Hank and Eric is exactly what we want to see in the future!
