FAQ

Why NewThing?

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland."(Isaiah 43:18-19).

We believe God is always up to something new. We want to be a catalyst for new things.

  • Why NewThing?

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." -Isaiah 43:18-19

We believe God is always up to something new. And God has called us to be catalyst for some of these new things. This will require us to collaborate and partner together in new ways. When we do this we can how we will achieve the Jesus Mission!

If you're a church planter, church, or network who wants to join us, let's talk!

  • How do you help me plant a church?

We don't want to help you plant a church. We want to help you plant movements of churches. We think that planting movements of churches requires you to ask you and your team different questions. We want to help you ask those questions and those answers. A NewThing Leadership Residency is the best way to do this.

  • Do you fund church planters?

We believe reproducing happens at the fringe. That’s why we want to remain decentralized and organic. We encourage our networks to plant churches and its our networks that fund church planting. If you're a prospective leadership resident, we do have matching dollars available for qualified applicants.

  • Do you invite women to plant churches?

    Most definitely!

  • What if I want to talk to someone?

    Sure thing! Contact us here.

  • How do I get access to NewThing Online?

NewThing Online is our exclusive monthly training opportunity for our NewThing teams. We invite the most influential thought leaders, theologians and practitioners to speak to our tribe once a month. People like Larry Osborne, Michael Frost, and Alan Hirsch have trained our people. Just another reason why you want to be part of NewThing!

  • How do I "join" NewThing?

For us it all boils down to relationships. NewThing was launched when Dave Richa, a Community Christian Church Student Ministry Director, felt led to start a new church in Denver, CO. Dave wanted to stay connected to Community we started a monthly, sometimes weekly, network phone call. Over time we started a few more churches and added more and more people to the network, and eventually reproduced into 3 networks. Through this experience we have learned the best way to “join” NewThing is to join a network. This happens by you applying for a Leadership Residency (click here to apply) and then us getting to know you and your story. If we sense we’d be a good fit for one another then we’d introduce you to Network Leader who would take you through similar steps. And if things got finalized you would join that Network.

  • How does money works at NewThing?

Our Networks of reproducing churches work together to catalyze movements. Each Movement is led by a Movement Leader and consists of approximately 3 to 4 networks of churches which are each led by a Network Leader

We ask that each NewThing church contribute financially to the mission based on its status in the movement.

    Reproducing Churches ($5,000 per year)

NewThing asks that each reproducing church show its commitment to reproducing by investing the first $5,000 USD per year of its church planting funds into its own network. These collective funds will remain within its Network and are available to catalyze ongoing reproduction of church planting. The Network Leader, in collaboration with the Network, will invest these financial resources to further church planting, campus planting, Leadership Resident grants and coaching from within the Network. To disburse funds, the Network Leader will submit a request with the proper receipts to NewThing Catalyst for reimbursement.  It's that simple!

It is important to note that everything a reproducing church contributes financially will remain invested within its own network. This means that reproducing churches in NewThing receive the resources, coaching, and leadership for free.

While NewThing does ask that each reproducing church contribute $5,000 USD annually from its church planting funds, a graduated scale can be discussed with the Network Leader if needed. We understand that financial situations vary.

    Network Leaders ($10,000 per year)

NewThing asks that each network-leading church show its commitment to reproducing by investing the first $10,000 USD per year of its church planting funds into NewThing Catalyst to serve leaders and churches in the field. If needed, a graduated scale can be discussed with the NewThing Director, as we understand that financial situations vary.

    Movement Leaders ($15,000 per year)

NewThing asks that each movement-leading church show its commitment to reproducing by investing the first $15,000 USD per year of its church planting funds into NewThing Catalyst to serve leaders and churches in the field. If needed, a graduated scale can be discussed with the NewThing Director, as we understand that financial situations vary.

  • How long does a Leadership Residency last?

A Leadership Residency is a 9-12 month apprenticeship at a NewThing church. We believe it is the most effective way for someone to immerse themselves in a reproducing church culture and take on the reproducing DNA. However, we are willing to explore other timeframes depending upon the launch plan of the church planter and the type of partnership we’re exploring.

  • Is there a good book I could read about reproducing?

After recommending the Bible, we would suggest Exponential, by Dave and Jon Ferguson.
