This page tells the ongoing story of NewThing.
Below you will find stories of life change in our network churches from all over the world.

Have questions about NewThing? We’d love to chat!

I was on the phone with my good friend and missional guru, Alan Hirsch. Whenever Alan and I talk, the conversation always gravitates to movement making.  We are both obsessed with the topic. In this conversation, Alan was explaining to me that he believed a clear and Biblical application of Ephesians 4:11-12: "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up."

NewThing Global: Starting a Movement in Albania

I recently traveled to Tirana, Albania to begin work with a couple of crazy church planters who are dreaming about reaching their country with the Jesus Mission. As usual, I made contact with these guys in Albania through a very simple conversation that led to great opportunities for developing a new addition to the New Thing/New Churches Now Reproducing Movement of Eurasia, or the Ex-Soviet Union.

Why go and help the Albanians?   I believe we should take the reproducing message of NewThing anywhere that there are people of God dreaming about doing something that we can help them do! The people of Albania are open to spiritual conversations but there is a battle-taking place over who will begin these conversations.

I had the chance to meet with 54 Church Planters during a Church Planting Conference we held and it was amazing how inspired they were about everything "NewThing".  These church planters are passionate about the Jesus Mission and are looking for partnership in building their own reproducing networks that will extend into the surrounding countries of Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia and beyond.

We are planting two new NewThing Churches with them right now. These guys need our support as they try to advance God's Kingdom in a place that is less than one half of one percent “Followers of Christ."

God is truly doing a new thing in Albania!

Connect Church Washington Baptizes 23

The reason we want to plant healthy reproducing churches is to help as many people experience a transforming relationship with Jesus. This has always been the goal of NewThing and always will. Here's a story from NewThing lead pastor Dave Jane at Connect about their first baptism service...

On September 8th, 2013, Connect Church launched in Washington IL. This last Sunday, February 23rd, we had our very first baptismal service. Connectbaptism

23 people were baptized!  Every one of them had great stories as to why they had chosen to be baptized. Here are a couple that really stood out:

Payton was one of the ladies being baptized having just recently making a commitment to follow Christ. This is the email we got from her the week after we launched:

I have not been to church since I was about 10 years old.  My daughter asked me this week "mommy can we start going to church so we can learn about God and Jesus?"  I have always felt like my children were missing out on something but I truly never knew where to start to find a church.

I received a postcard invite in the mail this week for Connect Church.  I went to your website and read about your beliefs and mission.  I listened to the videos from Val and Jennifer.  Val's video touched me with my personal feelings.  I shared the kids Connect program with my daughter and we decided we were going to attend this week.  I enjoyed the relaxed casual atmosphere and my children enjoyed their programs as well.  I will be returning next week.

Another guy getting baptized was Rodney. He too had never been to church before Connect. He is 40 with a wife and two young boys and they all love coming to Connect. Two weeks before the baptism service my wife and I sat in his living room and led him and his wife in a prayer to ask Jesus to be the Lord of their lives. He told me that night he didn’t think he could get baptized because he doesn’t understand all of the Bible. I told him I’ve been following Jesus for over 25 years and I don’t understand all of the Bible either!! He was tearing up the whole time while waiting to be baptized. He emailed me after thanking us again and sharing how although it has only been a few short months it has been an amazing journey.
