NewThing Latino Network - Making an Effort to Reach Out
I'm so glad to be part of NewThing. My journey with NewThing started in 2008 when I did a leadership residency at Community Christian Church in Chicago. I eventually planted a COMMUNITY's first bilingual campus on the east side of Aurora, just outside of Chicago. The reproducing culture, the support, the resources and the relationships that NewThing provides are the life-changing. I wouldn't change anything about my church planting experience with NewThing and have become passionate about sharing it with other young, Latino church planters.
Unfortunately, though, the Latino church planting world currently lacks healthy reproducing cultures, resources, relationships and support.
As NewThing continues to catalyze movements for reproducing churches, I believe that it should include Hispanic communities. Our country's demographic is changing so rapidly, with Hispanics becoming the largest minority in the country. There are about 50 million people in the United States that are Hispanic and that opens doors to a huge need in launching healthy reproducing churches in predominantly Hispanic communities .
Our goal is that the new Latino Network will provide the relationships, the reproducing culture, the residents and, eventually, more resources for anyone that wants to start a new church or campus in Hispanic communities.
There are many leaders that are called to plant new churches, but face many obstacles; they feel that they don’t have the permission from the current generation of Latino leaders to plant, there are very few resources to prepare them to plant and no one is equipping them specifically to plant. I believe that NewThing Latino can be that place where potential Latino church planters can get all that and be blessed and commissioned to go where God is calling them to help people find their way back to God!
